CIRCUMAMBULATION
Experimental/Avant Garde - Directed by Andrew Xue
A man sees a compelling symbolic landscape in a dream and decides to pursue it in the opens spaces of Siberia. In seeking this amorphous goal he faces both nature and himself. An unconventional film in the vein of Baraka and Samsara, Circumambulation weaves a rich visual and sonic tapestry in order to explore the spiritual journey of mankind. A lush original soundtrack of densely layered textures generated by synthesizers, cellos, and waterphones accompanies the protagonist as he wanders through the dense foliage of the film. Set within the vast beauty of the Siberian landscapes, the film juxtaposes the stunning environs of Lake Baikal and Lake Khövsgöl with man’s struggle in the world at large but also within himself. The great bodies of water symbolize not only the awe inspiring raw power of nature but also of the deep reservoirs of latent psychic content that is the collective unconscious. |
